The Old St.Andrews Clubhouse blend is in the character of a blended Scotch Whisky. This means that it is made from mostly grain whiskies but we add between 20% and 30% malts to the blend. What is important is the quality of the malts and the fact that they are all over five years old, which adds considerably to the smooth character. We use approx 15 different malts and three grain whiskies in the blend. Although the malts are predominantly from Speyside, there are also Highland and Islay malts in the recipe.

The name Monkey Shoulder lives on as an affectionate tribute to the malt-men of yore in recognition of the times they suffered for their art. Monkey Shoulder’s unique taste is the result of a careful blending of three single malt whiskies distilled in the heart of malt whisky country, Speyside. Unlike traditional blends, Monkey Shoulder only uses single malt from three Speyside distilleries, resulting in a richer blended malt of exceptional smoothness. Each batch is made by using just 27 casks carefully selected by our malt master, Brian Kinsman.

2016 has been a remarkable vintage in the Bordeaux region, reminiscent of the legendary 1990 in terms of both quantity and quality! It was a fairly challenging year for winegrowers, with a very wet start to the growth cycle (800 mm of rain over the first six months of the year), a very dry period from 1 July to 13 September, and finally localized thunderstorms and a beautiful Indian summer that enabled the grapes to reach optimal ripeness. The red wines are rich, smooth and fruity, with tannins of a rarely obtained maturity and very deep colors.

Using Portuguese ruby Port wine casks as the main flavour, Kavalan Concertmaster single malt whisky is the first matured in specially selected American oak casks and then finished in port barriques.
