Blended Whisky

First made in 1882 by William Sanderson - a liquor manufacturer from Leith, Scotland. To create the perfect blend, Sanderson made up 100 different vattings of whisky and hired a panel of expert whisky tasters to select the finest one. They chose the 69th vatting, thus the name, Vat 69. Blended using forty different malt and grain whiskies, this is a smooth, balanced spirit and a perennial favourite with blend drinkers.

This new edition of Whisky Barrel from the Scottish company Old St. Andrews is a vibrant testimony of the cooper’s profession. This blended malt expresses soft notes of oak enhanced with sharp fruit, lemon, orange with malted and biscuity notes.

The Old St.Andrews Clubhouse blend is in the character of a blended Scotch Whisky. This means that it is made from mostly grain whiskies but we add between 20% and 30% malts to the blend. What is important is the quality of the malts and the fact that they are all over five years old, which adds considerably to the smooth character. We use approx 15 different malts and three grain whiskies in the blend. Although the malts are predominantly from Speyside there are also Highland and Islay malts in the recipe.

Unlike traditional blends, Monkey Shoulder only uses single malt from three Speyside distilleries, resulting in a richer blended malt of exceptional smoothness. Each batch is made by using just 27 casks carefully selected by our malt master, Brian Kinsman.

Our blenders have selected mature, naturally smoky Malt Scotch Whiskies that are rich and complex in character, including Caol Ila from the Island of Islay. By introducing other classic Malts including Cardhu that have been specially matured for the blend in deep-charred old, oak casks, they have created a whisky that really amplifies the signature flavor that Johnnie Walker is famous for.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label is created using a selection of rare casks from the Speyside and Highland distilleries – including delicate Cardhu and Clynelish, warm, rounded Benrinnes, as well as Islay malts for our signature smokiness.
